Our activities span from local meet-ups at airfields like Krugersdorp and Orient to participating in renowned events such as the Silver Queen Air Rally at Swartkop. We also cherish our visits to unique locations like Sandstone Estates, home to a remarkable collection of steam trains and heritage items.

While we don’t hold regular meetings, our informal structure encourages members to initiate their own gatherings, be it a breakfast fly-in, a braai at a local airfield, or attending airshows together. This flexibility allows us to keep the spirit of vintage aviation alive in a way that suits our diverse membership.

Our club has a rich history of memorable events, such as the Africa Tiger Moth Safari in 1996, where four Tiger Moths embarked on an epic journey across Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, covering approximately 2,000 nautical miles of vast African bush. Another highlight was the 80th Anniversary formation flight in 2011, celebrating the first flight of the Tiger Moth with a leisurely coastal journey hosted by 43 Air School in Port Alfred.

Our History

Founded in 1994, the Tiger Moth Club of South Africa brings together aviation enthusiasts dedicated to preserving the legendary de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth. What started as small gatherings quickly became a thriving community celebrating vintage aviation.

Celebrating a Legacy

Since its inception, the club has been at the heart of South Africa’s classic aviation scene,

organizing fly-ins, airshow displays, and remarkable journeys like the 1996 Africa Tiger Moth Safari. Our members have showcased their skills in formation flying at Rand Airport, honored milestones such as the Tiger Moth’s 75th anniversary at AFB Swartkop, and participated in aviation events across the country.  While we remain a classic aviation collective, our shared love for these historic aircraft continues to unite pilots, aircraft owners, and enthusiasts, keeping the golden age of flight alive for generations to come.
